Seeking personal experiences from blind or visually impaired (VI) children who attended mainstream schools in Victoria
Dear past-student / parent / guardian
The new parents and supporters group called the Coalition for
The closure at the end of 2009 of the Burwood educational facility (the old RVIB campus) has provoked a massive resurgence of interest in offering mainstream blind and VI children a choice of schooling. The Coalition is proposing a new school, with full academic and ECC, for children who range from just blind or visually impaired to those with multiple issues.
This means offering an alternative to children who are currently struggling with mainstream integrated schools - not because they are personally deficient, but due to structural, skills and support deficiencies in the system.
When you were a student you may have felt isolated, have had limited access to sports, special services or curricula, been in large classes, missed out on sight oriented classroom studies, or needed life skills or other skills training and support not available in the mainstream.
This was some of the best information that I got from your blog.
